The IndiEarth XChange – A Tribute to Independent Art

IndiEarth XChange 2012 with about 150 delegates, 23 music showcases and 11 film screenings surpassed all industry expectations, establishing the relevance of such a platform for India’s independent music and film industry. XChange 2012 brought together India’s independent music and film industry to Chennai for the first time, and provided – also for the first time – a platform to engage with key industry professionals from over 12 countries for wider networking opportunities and exchange.

The professional discussions were unusually open, sometimes heated, but provoked interesting dialogue and new approaches, with meaningful exchange of opinion and ideas from the different perspectives of industry professionals from around the world. Beyond discussions, XChange 2012 also spawned new collaborations and business.

The world music and film festival’s programming was arguably at its best – 23 showcases on 4 stages ranged from the spiritual to cutting edge dance floor electronica: the esoteric poetry of Parvaty Baul, the electrifying folk/electronica of the Business Class Refugees, to the unbridled, raw exuberance of Ti Fock from the Reunion Islands. Explore the showcases here.

11 films from India were screened over 3 days – from the Film Division of India’s archives to 2012 releases like Siddharth Srinivasan’s Pairon Talle and Amlan Datta’s BOM – A Day Ahead of Democracy. Both films evoked strong responses in the audiences, who also had the opportunity to engage with the directors of the films. Explore the films here.
